How Do You Define Your Health?
Who said you needed a fountain of youth to be your most vibrant, healthier self? By making wiser choices now, you can expect vibrant health and quality years in the making. Age is just a number. It shouldn’t matter how many years you have under your belt; you can start a healthier, more energetic, and vibrant lifestyle now.
How to Be Healthy
Humans are beautifully complex. We have intricate systems that need to function at their best to be part of a well-balanced whole. When we forget one aspect of our lives, we don’t function properly. Whether that neglected area is our relationship with our selves, our spiritual health, our relationships with others, or our physical wellbeing. There are steps to a healthy lifestyle that we can take to become out most vibrant selves.
10 Tips For Healthy Living
Age should never stop us from making a healthy lifestyle change. Take charge and don’t let arbitrary things like the way you thought about aging when you were younger get in the way of forming healthier habits. For perhaps the first time in your life, you have the wisdom, time, and energy to really live a passionate, and healthier lifestyle. Literally, to thrive.
1. Take Stock
There comes a time in life that we tend to forget about ourselves. We’ve been focused on making sure everyone around us is their healthier selves. Now that you’ve decided to take a step towards a healthy lifestyle change, you’re going to want to do a couple of things. Catch up on doctors appointments, making sure that your body is in tip-top shape.
You also want to make sure that your shots are caught up. If you want to lose weight, you want to ask the doctor questions about things you can do to start. Taking stock of yourself, really reflecting, starts you down the path of great health and a better life.

2. Exercise and Sleep Well
This is a given for any healthy lifestyle. It doesn’t need to be strenuous or heavy lifting. Doing simple stretches, yoga or pilates can improve joint movement, give you a better mood and being generally health every day. Go walking in the park, take hikes through the woods, anything adventurous makes your day exciting. Not only is exercising good for the body, it’s good for the spirit. Meditation and yoga help us connect with our deeper, personal selves. By incorporating exercise into our daily lives we take steps closer to a healthy lifestyle.
With all the exercise you are doing, you will need to also get more sleep. Studies show that for those as young as 40, adults tend to function well on around 6.5 hours of sleep per night. After 80, you’ll need around 7 hours a night. That’s a lot easier to get than the fabled 8 you never really have been able to make. To get more sleep, try these three simple things:
- Don’t use electronics before bedtime, because the light from those screens can miscue our brains to wakefulness.
- Put on soothing sounds if you have trouble going to sleep such as ocean waves, nature, or static noise.
- Try meditating or simple stretches before bed to make your body more relaxed.
3. Fulfill Your Wanderlusting Soul
Your life has been filled with joy, sadness and memories. Now you’re feeling the call to have an adventure. Who says you can’t have an adventure at this stage in life? Grab a group of your friends, maybe some family members, and plan a hiking trip. If hiking isn’t your thing, try planning a trip you’ve always wanted to take. Whether it’s a day trip or an overseas adventure, reward your new healthy lifestyle with a change of scene.
4. Eat Regularly
We have all been known to skip meals once or twice. However, that can be bad for our systems. Sporadic meals can signal your body to make fat, due to low food supplies. Our bodies will store fat around our midsections because it thinks we are not getting enough food. If you minimize the intake of sweets and junk foods that fat will start to melt away.
Adding fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins 5 to 6 times a day is a great start to becoming healthy. Also, your body will thank you for eating regularly by giving you more energy, stabilizing your metabolism, and working better. Also, make meals a social gathering. If you live alone invite some friends over; make it a potluck where everyone brings something to the table.

5. Drink More Water
There are a lot of people who don’t like water. Whatever the reason they may not like it, water is important for healthy living. Drinking enough is essential for your body. You’re going to have more energy throughout your day. Coupled with eating regularly, you’ll lose weight easier. It also cleanses your body of toxins. You can also achieve clear and vibrant looking skin by drinking more water. The list is endless. Just remember to achieve a healthy lifestyle, add at least eight cups of water to your day. You can spruce it up by adding lemon, mint and cucumber for great taste!
6. Stay Committed
If you have decided to create a healthier life change for yourself, stick to your commitment. It is easy to get frustrated and give up. A healthy lifestyle is easy to achieve. With proper commitment and a group of people who are on the same path, you are able to stick to your guns.
7. Set Goals
As mentioned above, staying committed is easier to achieve when you have goals in mind. If it is a goal to becoming a fitter, healthier you, start small. Maybe you want to travel more. Have a journal or date book to chisel out where you want to go, what things you’re going to do when you travel. Whatever your goals may be, sticking to them will make you happier!
8. Be Your Best Self
Connect with your innermost self. If that is through prayer or meditation, connecting with that innermost spiritual by meditation has a myriad of healthy brain benefits. Start your day with an affirmation, a prayer, or by singing. Maybe it is finding a new spiritual awareness. Whichever you decide, connect with yourself for better living and create a great day.

10. Change Your Habits
We have all developed bad habits through the years. Whatever bad habit you have can be changed. One great habit to change is challenging your brain. By learning new skills you are giving your brain new activity. Take dance lessons, learn a new language, learn a new skill – such as crochet, knitting, or pottery. Whichever choice you make, a healthy lifestyle can be achieved by changing bad habits into good ones.

You will go from being bored to a more exciting life filled with adventure. Not to mention, you’ll start to realize that all those habits you created over the years begin to change…for the better.
